My understanding of the power of sound to heal happened when I was convalescing from numerous surgeries and I discovered the Music of Benjamin Joost and spent hundreds of hours laying in my recovery bed listening to the sound of himaylan singing bowls. The sound resonance became deeply etched on my consciousness and I truly believe that it was their constant sound that allowed me to heal. Using the Himalayan singing bowls and mantra I provide a safe and sacred space to allow an exploration each person's inner connections to the cosmic energy that underlies all of life. The Himalayan bowls that I use were painstakingly matched and collected with the help of Shakti at Bodhisatva Trading Company.
I am extremely lucky to have come into possession of such magical bowls and I hope that I get the opportunity to share their treasured sounds with you.
In Bali as I studied mantra and Dasa Vayu with I Made Sumantra the unifying nature of how sound creates connection became clear to me. Using a combination of mantra and gongs the Indonesians people developed an excellent healing strategy. It was through my studies with I Made Sumantra that I finally decided to begin to use the singing bowls in conjunction with mantra to facilitate healing. Himalayan singing bowls are a form of resting gong and in the Indonesion culture, there is a preserved knowledge of using sound to create a connection to the cosmic. The tradition I was taught by my guru is that you must first help your client to create an initial connection to the cosmic through sound or mantra. Once that connection is made then healing can proceed. The ancient techniques of Balinese mantra come from the Lontars. Lontars are sanskit works preserved on palm wood. Many of the Balinese are quite familiar with sanskirt and the form of Hinduism that they practice dates from approximately the 10th century. There are many lontars which describe various forms of healing using herbs and ritual and their is a deep tradition of this type of learning in Bali. The Lontar that the mantras and techiques that he taught me is called the Prakempa which describes the use of gongs and other musical instruments (Chakra Suara Genta Pinara Pitu) to invite the cosmic power into your body. Although I am still learning and continue to study with my guru, I do now feel confident that I can help people reach that point connection with the cosmic universal healing energy and help them to overcome their problems.
